Our spooky encounter with a little red Corvette

Messages left by fans of Prince outside the late singer’s Paisley Park compound in Minneapolis, Minnesota

At 5.30pm on Thursday 21 April I parked in Chelsea. A red Chevrolet Corvette was in the next bay, bonnet up, engine rumbling and misfiring. The owner was standing by the car calling for help. I asked if I could take a photo of his beautiful if unwell car, and mentioned the Prince song. We walked away and a few minutes later my wife’s phone bleeped with the sound the BBC uses for a newsflash. This car was made in 1958, the year of Prince’s birth. When we returned later the car had gone.

• Interesting that Victoria Wood did not merit any sort of tribute supplement whereas Prince was given eight pages (23 April). A sign o’ the times?
