'Our school won't allow it yet again': Notts parents on sports day changes

Parents from across Nottinghamshire have had their say on the Government's decision to allow school sports days to go ahead but only with stringent coronavirus safety rules in place.

Schools have to weigh up the risk of organising the events depending on the space and facilities available.

Rules banning groups of more than 30 people from mixing outside complicate how schools invite parents.

And children taking part have to be kept in their class or year bubbles.

Parents have had their say on the Nottinghamshire Live Facebook page when they were asked if they agreed with the decisions made by schools across the county about sports day.

Jessica Mow-Clancy wrote: "My kids' school doesn't do it anyway. But I feel for the schools that usually do and can't, especially when you see other events happening with stupid amounts of people present....football for one."

Laura Bradshaw said: "I'm heartbroken I am missing my first child's first sports day we missed all the other school firsts. I'm angry and fed up."

Amanda Hayward said: "It's in the open air but it's more likely children get upset if parents can't attend... it's sad."

Mary Slater added: "10 years plus ago they started not allowing parents to come to sports day, as some children got really upset when their parents couldn’t attend owing to work commitments. It was so sad to see."
