This Sunday marks the 70th anniversary of the passing of King George VI and the Queen ’s accession to the throne.
For Her Majesty it will be a bittersweet occasion. It will a moment to remember her father and a time to reflect on her years on the throne.
The country will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee with a series of events in June.
But it would be remiss for such an anniversary to pass without recognising the achievements of Britain’s longest-serving monarch.
For seven decades she has led this nation with grace, dignity and an unswerving sense of duty. Through a period of great change and sometimes great challenges, she has been a source of strength and inspiration.
She has led the country through times of celebration and comforted us during times of hardship.
Her Majesty’s humility, dedication and decency have been an example to us all.
It has been her honour to serve and our honour to have been served by her.

Vain & unable
It is hardly surprising that so many staff are leaving Downing St and more Tories have submitted letters of no confidence.
No person with any self-respect could defend Boris Johnson’s behaviour.
The Prime Minister arrogantly believed he did not have to follow the rules that he expected the rest of the country to follow.
If his arrogance has been his undoing, it could be his vanity that seals his fate.
Despite claiming he did not break any rules there is photo evidence of him clutching a beer at his lockdown birthday party.
The fact it was taken by his vanity photographer shows pride does come before a fall.
Go Team GB
Good luck to Team GB in the Winter Olympics. We are ready to be gripped by curling and amazed by the bobsleigh.
And let’s hope it’s downhill all the way for our skiers and snowboarders.
