Our Liverpool: Sadie Edwards, queen of our hearts

For many of our readers the big hit of this year's Grand National festival was 90-year-old Sadie Edwards.

Sadie, who previously lived in Kirkby and who now lives in Ormskirk, had never been to the festival before despite living so near and was taken this year by her daughters. Our reporters were interviewing new arrivals at the gates and were fortunate enough to bump into Sadie and have a chat with her.

People watching our Facebook live of the conversation were fascinated by her obvious zest for life and simple joy of being there and having a fuss made of her. You can see some of Sadie's antics on the day in a Youtube video here.

Commenters on our Facebook post included Mary Render, who said: "What a stunning and beautiful lady - she oozes beauty outside and inside." Marie Bruns said: "She should have entered the best dressed lady," and Rebecca Heatley, who said: "I only hope I could be like this at 90! What a lovely lady! Hope she fully enjoyed her day!"

We couldn't stop thinking about Sadie after the festival so popped along to see her with a gift of flowers from The ECHO staff and for a chat about how her day out went.

She said: "I'll never forget walking in to Aintree and the joy and atmosphere and the people, and the people who interviewed me saying lovely things, it was just amazing." Asked about life since her big day out, she said: "Well I feel like a big celebrity. I've had lots of people approaching me and a lot of things happening, it was wonderful. On Saturday I went to the opticians and all the girls there said: 'Hi I saw you at Aintree!'"

You can see our chat with Sadie in the video above and leave your comments for her below. It was lovely to meet her and nicer still to have left a smile on her face.
