Award-winning cuisine

A chef from a Merseyside restaurant has bagged the Special Recognition award in the 1st Nation's Curry Awards 2023 - though didn't believe it at first.

The awards aim to celebrate the best curry houses and chefs up and down the country and Merseyside's own Geeta Bhandari was recognised for her work at beloved restaurant Da Mount Gurkha, which is based in Waterloo. Over a series of months, many venues and chefs were assessed before the winners were unveiled in a swanky ceremony at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel on February 20, with more than 150 guests in attendance. Photie Man

Tom Wood spent 25 years capturing characters on the streets of Merseyside.

From trips to Greatie market to matchdays at Anfield and Goodison Park, Tom's photos offer a fascinating snapshot of life in Liverpool during the 80s and 90s. Born in Ireland, Tom Wood moved to Merseyside in 1978 and lived here until 2003.

It was during this time he earned the nickname "Photie Man", as he spent his time photographing people and places not usually represented in art at a time of great social and political change. Tom's photos are set to feature in a new exhibition called "Photie Man: 50 Years of Tom Wood" at the Walker Art Gallery, celebrating over half a century of his work. Tributes to a football legend

Jamie Carragher has issued a tribute to John Motson after the commentator died aged 77.

The world of football is in mourning after the Match of the Day legend's death was announced this morning. The broadcaster, known as Motty, commentated on more than 2,500 televised matches and provided the voice of some of the game's most iconic moments. You can read the full story here.
