Our Liverpool: Boy's life changed after tragic seaside ordeal

Hello and welcome to Our Liverpool.

A man who ran into the propeller of an aeroplane as a boy wants to thank those who saved his life during the ordeal which saw him lose his arm. Back in the 70s, Darren Peel made headlines across the country after the incident and he has used a prosthetic arm since.

He spoke to our nostalgia reporter about the "shock overcoming the pain" and how he had been so excited to see Southport from the air. He wanted to thank the staff at Broadgreen Hospital and the police who rushed to his aid, saying "they saved my life at the end of the day."

Health inspectors watch as rat escapes zero star takeaway

Health inspectors said they witnessed a rat exiting the site of an Anfield takeaway during their visit to assess the shop's hygiene. The ECHO has obtained a full inspection report of the council's visit to Amalfi Pizza in Priory Road which led to them being awarded the lowest possible score for food hygiene and safety compliance.

Gangs from other cities 'reluctant to come to Liverpool'

A former career criminal who groomed children into organised crime groups (OCGs) across the North West has claimed that OCGs from other cities are reluctant to come to Liverpool due to the "reputation" of Merseyside Police.

Sicarius McGrath was once described as a "monumental risk to the public" but his criminal lifestyle hit home after he watched a programme in his cell on the murder of 11-year-old Rhys Jones. He said: ""[OCGs] know the reputation of the Matrix unit and they was all very reluctant to visit this city with weapons."

Lush issues statement after popular Liverpool store is put up for sale

The Lush store building has been listed for sale almost four years after the popular cosmetics brand moved into the Church Street building. Lush has now released a statement confirming they will not be leaving despite the sale of the building.
