'Our house' - Sunderland's hilarious message to Wycombe after Stadium of Light thrashing

Sunderland have sent a brilliant response to Wycombe Wanderers following their convincing victory at the Stadium of Light.

Goals from Charlie Wyke, Denver Hume, and a brace from Chris Maguire rounded out a crushing win over the league leaders on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats lost their opening match under Phil Parkinson in the reverse fixture at Adams Park in October last year.

Darius Charles scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute, and his comments following the match sparked a reaction from Sunderland supporters.

Speaking to Wycombe's club website, the 32-year-old said: "They came here and I felt they were quite smug, and they came with this 'Sunderland' presence - and I just wanted to let them know that you're in our house, you play by our rules.

"This is Wycombe, this is Adams Park, and we are who we are. We're second in the table, you are wherever you are - respect us."

These incendiary comments inevitably sparked a response from Sunderland's official account on social media.

Firstly, the Black Cats posted 'our house' at the full-time whistle once the victory had been confirmed.

But then Charles' video message from last year was dug out to great comedic effect.

The cheeky response went down well with fans on Wearside, earning more than 1,000 retweets and 7,000 likes so far.

And the team behind Wycombe's social media account took the message in good faith and issued their own tongue-in-cheek response.

The victory extended Sunderland's unbeaten run to six matches, and lifted the Black Cats into sixth place - six points behind the automatic promotion spots with a game in hand.

Wycombe's heavy defeat saw them knocked off the summit by Rotherham United, who earned an impressive 3-1 victory at Oxford United.
