It's the end of a decade-long era for one Old Town venue after the latest batch of hospitality restrictions has caused them to shut their doors for good.
In a heart-breaking Instagram post, Spoon, which has been trading on Nicolson Street for over ten years, announced that after 'an utterly crap year', they have had to close down.
The team described how the latest restrictions had left them in 'a helpless position' after battling through the initial lockdown period earlier this year without furlough or a rent reduction on the premises.
The post reads:
"Dear friends of Spoon, As for many businesses, this year has been utterly crap for us.
"Spoon has existed as an independent café trading for over 10 years in the heart of the city. Over that time we have so much fun and met some incredible people loyal to the business.
"We have tried as hard as we can to keep going. We have persevered against a significant loss of business as well as having received no furlough or rent reductions.
"With the new restrictions announced yesterday we have been put in a helpless position. It breaks our hearts to say goodbye.
"Friday the 9th will be our last day. Pop by for one last coffee or just a chat. Thanks to all of you that have supported us over the years. We will miss you all."
The post has gained comments from devastated locals and tourists who've followed the café after a visit, with one writing: " We came to your café on our honeymoon and will cherish it forever."
Another added: "I always went here for fry-ups with my flatmates at Edinburgh University after nights out."
