Michelle Keegan has quit the BBC drama Our Girl after four series, in order to “spend more time at home”.
The actor has played Lance Corporal Georgie Lane since 2016, having replaced former star Lacey Turner. But the forthcoming series will be her last.
“I’ve had the most incredible four years on the show and I want to thank the BBC for giving me such an amazing opportunity,” she told The Sun.
She continued, “Playing Georgie has been a life changing role for me. I’ve loved every second of the adventure so it was a very hard decision to make not to return.
“I feel it is the right time to explore other exciting opportunities but I’m so happy to be part of the new series coming soon so it’s not the end just yet.”
The report also claims that Keegan is planning to “spend more time at home” in the UK. Our Girl filmed in locations including South Africa and Malaysia.
Keegan’s husband Mark Wright has also returned from the US, where he has been working as a television presenter.
Last year, Keegan told The Independent that she was tired of people speculating about the pair having a baby together.
“I get so frustrated,” she said. “I’m asked purely because I’m a woman. But I’m immune to it now — it’s like a reaction and as soon as I hear it I brush it off, as it’s no one else’s business.”
Our Girl returns to BBC screens later this year, with the show’s producers reportedly looking for a new star following Keegan’s exit.
