Our friends electric as Ayrshire hire company is gifted two new eco cars

A community car hire group in Ayrshire who offer low cost rentals for people in the community have just been given two electric cars from SP Energy to boost their fleet.

South Ayrshire Community Transport, SACT, has two brand new electric cars that will help people in the area attend hospital appointments, job interviews or other important appointments.

At the moment they offer a minimal charge to hire cars which is set to decrease further as they have been given two electric cars from Scottish Power Energy Network’s Green Economy Fund, the project was in direct response to the findings of the Tandem Report which called for smaller, lower cost vehicles for hire which didn’t have any license restrictions.

And of course, there are all the added benefits of lower air and noise pollution.

George of SACT said: "if you need a car to take a relative, friend, or yourself to a hospital or GP appointment, to a community group, to a job interview, to a meeting or just even out for a wee trip somewhere and public transport isn’t an option, we should be able to help you.

"The lower running costs of electric vehicles mean that the cars which require only an ordinary driving license, will be able to be hired out at a significantly lower cost than a standard petrol or diesel car."

A total of 21 Scottish projects were awarded a share of £10million from the Green Economy Fund, the fund was set up in 2018 to support projects that will help the Scottish Government in reaching its green targets, which aim to boost local economic growth, improve air quality in our cities and deliver a better future, quicker for our communities.

Among them was The HALO in Kilmarnock which delivers a sustainable low carbon energy system, using 100 per cent renewable energy, to service businesses and the residential community at The HALO.

This award winning project was praised for its is innovative urban regeneration that looks set to revitalise the centre of Kilmarnock and support the growth and resilience of the Ayrshire economy through the training and re-skilling of the young people of Ayrshire.
