Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man outing is taking shape as Jon Bernthal joins Spider-Man: Brand New Day. And fans of the comics should be excited to see Peter Parker and Frank Castle face off against each other.
The news comes after fans already knew that Sadie Sink was joining the film in an “undisclosed role.” There are quite a few women in Peter Parker’s world who have not yet made an appearance and it has been rumored that Zendaya will still return as MJ with Jacob Batalon’s Ned. But neither Ned or MJ know who Peter is at this point.
Whatever happens with the rest of the cast, Peter having to deal with Frank is exciting for comic fans. The two have met before in the Marvel comic world and it wasn’t exactly a smooth sailing experience. Peter Parker’s approach to stopping his foes is very different than Frank’s. Meaning Peter will give someone a second chance and Frank doesn’t even give himself a chance to think that a second chance is even a possibility.
Two characters who, at their core, are “heroes” should at least have some common ground but for all of Frank’s heroic tendencies, it is the “anti-” part of his characterization that makes his relationship with Peter Parker such a rich one. And so it makes this addition to Brand New Day exciting.
We don’t know where Peter is going to be in this movie. The last we saw of him, he was in New York alone without anyone who remembered who he is all thanks to the multiverse. But Peter is always going to be that good kid from Queens and so I don’t really see him and Frank Castle becoming buddies. With Frank in the film though, I hope this means that Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) are not long to follow…
