Some parents choose a theme when they're naming their brood - whether it's naming their children similar things like George and Georgina, or opting for a certain letter of the alphabet and sticking to it for all their kids - it really is personal to everybody.
One woman took to Reddit's 'Name Nerds' thread to explain that her and her siblings had really similar names that all began with 'B', but she said that it worked for her family.
She said that she'd seen a lot of parents asking on the thread whether names were too similar, so wanted to put her two cents in.
She wrote: "I've seen a lot of posts lately asking if names are too similar and I have some thoughts to share.
"I grew up in a house with a Bob, a Ben, a Brad, and a Beth. If someone upstairs yelled downstairs for one of those people it was almost impossible to distinguish which name was being yelled.
"My suggestion if you are trying to decide if names are too similar is to do just that. Go to opposite ends/sides/floors in your home and yell the names. If you and your partner/support person/roommate can easily distinguish between the names then I say you are good to go.
"It doesn't matter what other people think about the names. What matters is that the names work for you and your family!"
One woman wrote in the comments: "I literally just made a post asking this question lol. I don't want judgement from others about the names being too similar.
"As for yelling across the house, even though my siblings all have different names my mom would yell so weird combo of them every time. I was never "Melissa" for example I was "Jo-Am...Mel!" because she'd accidentally say the first two names first. So we'd get confused anyway!"
Someone joked: "My mum calls me by my sister's name, and very often, she used to call me by the dog's name... They all start with the same letters and similar sounds..."
Another pointed out that you'll get judged either way, so you may as well do what you want to do, writing: "People are going to judge the names you choose regardless. If you go the traditional route people will say you are lame and boring; if you go a more modern/trendy route they'll question your sanity."
