'Our biggest game of the season' - Irvine Meadow ready for Largs revenge mission

Irvine Meadow boss Brian McGinty reckons Saturday’s revenge mission against Largs Thistle in his side’s biggest game of the season.

Medda head into the home league clash with the painful memory of a 7-0 thrashing in the reverse fixture still fresh in their minds.

McGinty is desperate to right that wrong – but it’s not his only motive for wanting to put one over Stuart Davidson’s Macron Scottish Junior Cup semi-finalists.

He said: “If we win on Saturday, it puts our goal of finishing the best of the promoted teams in our hands.

“That’s what we’ve set our sights on and as far as I’m concerned this is our biggest game of the season.

“Largs thoroughly deserved to beat us last time round. We were on a very bad run at the time but the players have worked extremely hard to turned it round and they’ll be desperate to put on a show.”

Meadow go into the match on a high after securing their top flight status a fortnight ago while Largs will have one eye on the following weekend’s semi-final clash against Hurlford.

“Knowing Stuart Davidson as I do there’s no way he’ll let his players take their foot off the gas, said McGinty.

“They’ll have boys playing for semi-final places too.

“It’s important that we approach the game in a physical manner and let Largs know they’re not in for an easy ride.”

Meadow were forced to cancel a planned friendly against East Kilbride on Saturday due to poor weather, but McGinty reckons that could be a blessing in disguise.

He said: “We had one or two wee niggles in the squad so the extra few days rest has definitely helped.”

Captain Ben Carson and left-back Jared Willet are expected to resume training this week after recovering from injury.

McGinty added: “We’ll give them every chance to make the Largs game but it probably comes too early for them.”
