Our Bristol City player ratings for the 2018/19 season - O'Leary excels, Adelakun struggles

Player ratings form one of the most divisive pieces of writing a sports journalist will do on a regular basis.

Every matchday, a reporter will give the Bristol City starting XI and substitutes a rating out of 10 as soon as the final whistle sounds.

It's tough, sometimes seems unjust, and makes for some low scores on average once the season is over.

The one constant is that they will always be a talking point for fans and journalists alike.

Following the conclusion of the Robins' 2018/19 Championship season, we have added up ALL the Robins match ratings for the campaign.

What is obvious is that the more games you play, the harder it is to have a high score.

The overall scores reveal the goalkeepers had outstanding seasons, with Niki Maenpaa and Max O'Leary averaging 7.2, while Frank Fielding scored a seven.

In defence Adam Webster and Tomas Kalas are inevitably the standout performers.

Update on future of Bristol City target also linked with Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday as contract is offered

The scores reflect the brilliant seasons Callum O'Dowda and Josh Brownhill had in midfield, while up top there is a surprise as Matty Taylor comes out with the best marks.

The numbers also show that youngster Antoine Semenyo has not had the best time of it once he returned from his loan at Newport Town. He will be expected to kick on next season.
