It’s often described as Australia’s most successful dating show, but Farmer Wants A Wife may be losing its credibility after this year’s dismal success rate.
Despite Sunday night’s reunion revealing that four of the five couples were still together — with Farmer Alex Thompson-Welch and Eddy Fry announcing they’d split shortly after filming the show — it’s since been confirmed that not every relationship has gone the distance.
Fan favourites Farmer Dylan Scarborough and Ally Horsburgh have sadly called it quits, and now Farmer Jason Tessman and Poppy Victoria have confirmed they’ve ended their relationship.
When did Farmer Jason and Poppy break up?
Jason has claimed that Poppy dumped him just a few days after they filmed the reunion episode in January, which left him completely blindsided.
“I think the reunion was like on a Friday. We flew back to Brisbane on a Saturday,” he told New Idea. “Then we stayed with her friend Saturday night in Brisbane, and I drove back home on Sunday morning. She went back to her place, and texting went pretty quiet on her end during the week, and then she called on Saturday and said, ‘It’s over’.”
While Poppy also confirmed she broke up with Jason on the phone, she told a slightly different story to the publication and claimed she ended things three months after the reunion.
“I called him, and I just spoke openly to him that I wasn’t feeling the way that I wanted to feel by that time, by those few months after getting to know him, and I didn’t think it would be fair to continue when I just wasn’t feeling that way,” she said.
Why did Farmer Jason and Poppy break up?
As for why she made the “difficult decision” to break up with the fairy farmer, Poppy said the chemistry had simply faded and she “didn’t feel that attraction” as much as she hoped.
“I didn’t want to string anybody along. I spent time getting to know him through the show and afterwards, and I just felt he wasn’t sort of my kind of person I could see long-term, despite giving it lots of time and lots of chances,” she said. Ouch.
Apparently, the couple exchanged a few messages when the show premiered, but haven’t had any “real contact” since March. They also told New Idea that they don’t have any regrets about the experience, so at least that’s a good thing!
Farmer Jason has yet to move on with a new partner (despite rumours swirling he’s reconnected with another contestant), so hopefully this farmer finds his wife soon. Hey, there’s always next season!
