Otters filmed running and diving into the Union Canal in Fountainbridge

It looks like Edinburgh's otter population has found a new haunt.

Two of the animals were spotted playing on the banks of the Union Canal in Fountainbridge on Friday.

Chris Dobson tweeted a video of them running along the path opposite a new development, near the Lochrin Basin. One rolls off the bank and plunges into the canal while the other

He said: "Amazing sight at Fountainbridge, this morning. Otters on the canal!"

Earlier this month a family of otters were seen of the Water of Leith.

Three cubs were seen splashing around in the fast-flowing water, with one enjoying a piggyback from its mother.

In June last year, there was another sighting of wild otters at Dean Bridge. There have been rumours of a very rare albino otter further upstream in West Lothian.
