When I received this book, my expectations of it were quite low – I don't like books about fantasy. However, after just a few pages, I got completely sucked into the story and all the bold, colourful characters. Othergirl was full of twists and surprises. It is completely novel in its writing style and ideas. It is a very compelling read and is very intense in places.
The story is about a girl whose best friend has super powers! Sometimes though, Louise can't help feeling a bit left out, what with always being in the background.
As Erica gets more and more appreciated for her powers Louise ends up having to do all the left over work – fixing costumes, boy problems, and writing out all of Erica's homework for her! And are the Vigils, the superhero team that are the elite police force, really as nice as they seem?
My favourite character is Louise because she relates to me. She is single minded, organised and a bit boring! However, she is always there for Erica when she gets in a mess. Her character develops throughout the book and by the end she is more confident of herself.
Join Erica as she soon gets caught up in a situation that she can't fly her way out of, and Louise who is left to save the day with only a dreary librarian for help…
This book has taught me a lot about stranger danger. Reading this book has made me appreciate normality more and also the bonds of friendship.
