OT Russell Okung recruiting Malik Jackson to Chargers

The Jaguars did some spring cleaning on Friday by releasing five players to clear up cap space. Among the ones that they released, defensive tackle Malik Jackson could be an intriguing option for the Chargers when free agency kicks off this week.

A fan favorite to some already, a player of Los Angeles tends to be on the same boat. Offensive tackle Russell Okung took to Twitter to share his interest in bringing Jackson to L.A.

Okung’s was a quote tweet of an original one by Broncos cornerback Chris Harris, who seems to want Jackson to come back to Denver, where he started his NFL career.

It would not be out of the Chargers reach to bring in Jackson. After signing a six-year, $85.5 million deal in 2016, Jackson did not live up to his contract, especially in 2018. The 29-year old defensive tackle’s price tag would likely drop a little bit.

If anything, the Bolts could land Jackson on a contract worth $9-10 million per year, which is very reasonable for a team that is need of depth and reliable players at the position.

With Los Angeles wanting to find more interior defensive line presence this offseason, Jackson would fit the mold. He has shown the ability to be disruptive player up the middle and he could flourish on a line with the focus going towards defensive ends Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram.
