OT Cedric Ogbuehi’s contract is a 1-year deal for the veterans minimum

After signing Nick Foles to the most expensive contract in franchise history, it was clear the Jacksonville Jaguars would have to do some bargain shopping and that’s exactly what they did with the signing of offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi. According to Spotrac, the veteran’s deal is a one-year deal for the league’s minimum of $895k and will guarantee him $90k. Ogbuehi’s deal is just one of three from this past weekend that look to be a low-risk, high-reward contract as tight end Geoff Swaim and receiver Chris Conley signed deals that are expected to be $2 million and $1.8 million cap hits, respectively.

After looking at his career, it appears Ogbuehi may turn out to be a backup at best, but if he wins the starting job at right tackle, his deal would especially be a big steal for the Jags’ front office. If he flat out doesn’t pan out and has to be cut, that’s fine, too, because the Jags simply aren’t breaking the bank for him.

Ogbuehi will now battle with second-year player Will Richardson for the starting right tackle position and it’s also possible a rookie will join the mix, too. He’ll enter his tenure with the Jags with 25 starts to his name, so at the least he’ll have experience by his side.
