OSU’s Dominic Canzone selected by Diamondbacks in 8th round of MLB Draft

Though it probably took longer than most expected, it was only a matter of time before we heard the name called.

Ohio State outfielder Dominic Canzone was finally selected in the eighth round of 2019 MLB Draft Tuesday by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was a captain for Ohio State this year and probably should have won the Big Ten Player of the Year Award.

He led the conference in batting average, went on an unbelievable 59-game bases reached streak that only ended because the season ended, and helped lead the Buckeyes to the Big Ten Tournament title this year.

Overall, he hit .345, had an on-base percentage of .444, and slugging percentage of .620. He was a First-Team All-Big Ten Performer and made the All-Big Ten Tournament team. He was the catalyst that was often right in the thick of things on offense for Ohio State.

Now, he gets a shot at trying to make his dreams come true as the No. 242 overall pick by the Arizona organization. Here’s to wishing him the best.
