OSU men’s golf advances to NCAA Championships

The Ohio State men’s golf team is playing on — this time advancing to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take part in the NCAA Championships after qualifying second at the Myrtle Beach, SC Regional.

It’s the program’s 32nd NCAA Championship appearance overall, and first since 2011. The Buckeyes entered the regional as the No. 8 seed but put up one of their best tournaments of the year, becoming just the 12th No. 8 seed to advance in to the championships in the last decade.

The other teams advancing out of the Myrtle Beach Regional were Illinois (1st), Wake Forest (3rd), California (4th), and UNLV (5th).

Caleb Ramirez and Will Voetsch had a large part to do with the showing by the scarlet and gray, shooting a combined 17-under par to lead the team. Ramirez’ finished in fourth place with a total 207 (68-69-70). According to a release from Ohio State, it’s the best 54-hole score of his career and resulted in his second career top-5 finish. The senior tore up the course with 16 birdies in three rounds to finish nine-under par and be the low man for Ohio State.

Voetsch also finished strong. He ended the last day with a 69 to move to eight-under par to finish with his third top-10 finish of his last four appearances. He holed three birdies on the front and battled through the last nine to finish in sixth place and a new 54-hole career low of 208 (68-71-69).

The NCAA Men’s Golf Championships will take place from May 24-29.
