Ospreys stars filmed petting lions in South Africa over a year after Wales hooker Scott Baldwin nearly 'lost his hand'

You might have thought it would be a case of once bitten, twice shy, given Scott Baldwin's brush with a lion on the Ospreys' Guinness PRO14 safari to South Africa last season.

The Wales hooker made headline news for picking up a gruesome hand injury while petting a lion at a game reserve outside Bloemfontein.

An infection set in, began spreading up Baldwin's arm and after four bouts of  surgery Baldwin was told by a surgeon he could easily have lost his left hand.

Being George North, the Wales rugby star people always expect more from

He was out of action until late October and took some ruthless stick when making his comeback against Saracens at Allianz Park.

On their return to Bloemfontein this week, you'd have expected to see the Ospreys steering well clear of any big game - except the one in the PRO14 against the Cheetahs this weekend.

But working on the premise lightning, or in this case big cats, don't strike twice, the Ospreys were back at a game reserve this week ahead of their clash at the Toyota Stadium on Saturday.

Wales scrum-half Aled Davies posted on his social media account a picture stroking a tiger cub, while Test wing Luke Morgan put up a video of a lioness being petted and having her tummy tickled.

The Guinness PRO14 conferences will be overhauled next season and this is how it will be worked out

If they needed any comforting words for their venture into the lion's den, a local ranger is heard telling them: "Don't be afraid, nothing will happen, they've been taught not to use their nails.

He added: "If she bites you, smack her."
