Ospreys' Guinness PRO14 clash with Zebre postponed due to Coronavirus fears

The Ospreys' fixture against Zebre this weekend has been postponed due Coronavirus fears.

Restrictions have been placed on public gatherings and sporting events by both local and national authorities dealing with the outbreak.

The Welsh region's match was due to take place in Parma this weekend, whilst Ulster's trip to face Benetton has also been postponed.

Work to reschedule both matches has begun.

Italy currently has the largest number of Coronavirus cases in Europe and authorities have imposed restrictions in the Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto regions.

The Women's Six Nations clash between Italy and Scotland due to take place yesterday was postponed and four Serie A football fixtures were also put off over the weekend.

All action in Italy's top rugby league have also been postponed, as well as all domestic rugby activities.

A statement from the Guinness PRO14 read: "To ensure the safety of our players and spectators PRO14 Rugby fully supports the preventative measures taken in Italy and will adhere to the directives from the WHO and local authorities.

"The current restrictions are in place until Sunday, March 1, 2020 and PRO14 Rugby will remain in contact with the FIR (Italian Union), Zebre Rugby Club, Benetton Rugby and World Rugby to monitor situation on a daily basis."
