Ospreys draft in two players from the Scarlets due to 'unprecedented injury crisis'

The Ospreys have brought in two props from west Wales rivals the Scarlets in response to an “unprecedented injury crisis”.

Experienced tight-head Simon Gardiner, who has made more than 50 regional appearances, and young loosehead Rhys Fawcett are the men coming on board until the end of the season.

The Ospreys have been hit by the loss of no fewer than five props

Rhodri Jones (shoulder), Tom Botha (lower leg) and Rhys Henry (shoulder) were already sidelined and they have been joined on the casualty list by Gareth Thomas (knee) and Gheorghe Gajion (ankle), who were both injured in the Champions Cup defeat at home to Racing 92 at the weekend.

That had left them with just three fit props in Nicky Smith, Ma’afu Fia and Wales Under-20s loosehead Jordan Walters.

Elsewhere on the fitness front, they are waiting for an update on Wales centre Owen Watkin, who hurt a knee against Racing.

Elsewhere, full-back Dan Evans will go before a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday having been sent off in the opening minute of the clash with the French giants.
