Ospreys announce new attack coach after Brock James exit

Ospreys have announced the appointment of Richard Fussell as their new attack coach in succession to Brock James.

And former Wales U20 and Scarlets forwards chief Richard Kelly has taken over as transition coach.

The pair will work under head coach Toby Booth in his third season at the Swansea.com Stadium region, with Duncan Jones continuing as first-team coach.

It’s a promotion for Fussell, who has filled the attack-chief brief when heading up Ospreys Development XV campaigns in the Celtic Cup and when spending two tournaments with Wales during the U20 Six Nations.

He joined the south-west Wales region in 2010 and made 113 appearances for them as a wing or full-back, scoring 18 tries. He has spent the past few seasons as skills coach for the senior team and now takes on a role that will be seen as highly important as the Ospreys' attack stuttered at times last term.

The region flagged up in February that James would be departing at the end of the season and returning to New Zealand to be with his family.

Kelly has the key post of helping young players in the set-up make the move into senior rugby.

The 34-year-old former lock had six outings for the Ospreys as a player and also had significant spells with Swansea RFC and the Scarlets.

Darren Edwards stays as defence coach after coming into the Ospreys environment at the start of the year. The Maesteg-born coach brings a wealth of experience having previously guided Wales U20s, the Dragons, Bath and Wales Sevens, with his playing career including time at Saracens, Bedford, London Welsh, Newport, London Irish and Leeds.

Performance director Corin Palmer leads the off-field team, with his job being to strengthen and improve the off-field rugby departments to support on-pitch performances.

Head of physical performance Simon Church, head analyst Aled Griffiths, head of medical Chris Towers all head their respective departments in the region’s high-performance environment.
