BHUBANESWAR: Following a significant drop in Covid cases in the state, the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) on Saturday wrote to the state government to allow reopening of schools from classes 1 to V at the earliest.
The state government has allowed resumption of physical classes for students of classes VI to XII in a phased manner, but the government has not taken any decision about primary classes.
"The prolonged closure of schools for nearly 20 months has had an adverse impact on the mental and physical development of children. It is very difficult to develop reading and writing skills in online mode, specially for children at the primary level," said Sandhyabati Pradhan, chairperson of OSCPCR.
