Oscars planning to add ceremony 'hubs' after banning attendance via Zoom

The Oscars are planning to add ceremony 'hubs' outside the US after banning attendance through Zoom.

The 93rd Academy Awards take place on April 25 primarily from Union Station in Los Angeles, California.

This is a change from the ceremony's traditional location at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre, which is set to feature still in some live segments.

However, after the ceremony banned stars making appearances over Zoom, there was concern that any nominees outside of the US would be unable to appear nor even visibly accept their award wins.

Now it has been revealed that international nominees will appear from satellite linked locations or 'hubs' in the cities of London and Paris to reduce travel for nominees.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the specific official venues for these 'hubs' have yet to be confirmed.

However, this means that British nominees will definitely get their time in the spotlight.

Eight out of twenty of this year's acting nominees are British.

Of the Brits, Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), Sir Anthony Hopkins (The Father), and Gary Oldman (Mank) are each nominated for Best Actor, while Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman) and Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) are each nominated for Best Actress.

Meanwhile, Olivia Colman (The Father) is nominated for Best Supporting Actress, as Sacha Baron Cohen (The Trial of the Chicago 7) and Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah) are up for Best Supporting Actor.

British director Emerald Fennell is also nominated for Best Director for helming Promising Young Woman.

Other international nominees include Danish Best Director nominee Thomas Vinterberg for Another Round, Bulgarian Best Supporting Actress nominee Maria Bakalova for Borat Subsequent Movie Film, and South Korean Best Supporting Actress nominee Youn Yuh-jung for Minari.

British singer Celeste is also nominated alongside Daniel Pemberton for Best Original Song for her track Hear My Voice as heard in The Trial of the Chicago 7.
