Oscars: Jane Fonda spent seven hours transforming hair for ceremony

Jane Fonda spent approximately seven hours transforming her hair for the Academy Awards.

During the awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday evening in Los Angeles, Fonda presented the most highly-regarded accolade of the evening: the Best Picture prize, which was won by Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite.

Prior to the event, the 82-year-old had her hair coloured an icy silver shade, a departure from her typical blonde locks.

Fonda’s hair colourist, Jack Martin, shared a post on Instagram outlining the lengthy process of colouring her hair.

He explained that throughout the seven-hour period that he was working on the Grace and Frankie star’s hair, she busied herself writing chapters of her upcoming book, memorising lines for her Netflix show, reading the news and responding to emails.

“She made me feel ashamed to complain of being tired,” Martin said. “This experience was extremely great and I will never forget this amazing day. [sic]”

The hair colourist said that Fonda’s goal was to “surprise” the audience at the Dolby Theatre with her choice of hair colour.

“Her goal colour was a silver icy blonde to surprise everyone at the 2020 Oscar presenting the final award winner for the movie of the year,” he stated.

Martin detailed how he achieved Fonda’s final look, beginning by bleaching her hair.

“Jane was extremely happy for getting her dream hair that took her a while to find a colourist that can do it perfectly in a very painless process,” he concluded.

Last month, Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix was arrested while attending one of Fonda’s weekly climate protests in Washington DC.

Fonda began her Fire Drill Fridays protests in October last year, inspired by environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg.
