Oscars 2026: The most questionable celebrity looks on the red carpet

From overly decadent suits to eyebrow-raising silhouettes, the 2026 Academy Award red carpet was filled with fashion don’ts.

While some celebrities wowed with their looks, others completely missed the mark in outfits that didn’t match the lavish occasion.

Hamnet director Chloé Zhao sparked comparisons to the Grim Reaper from certain angles, wearing a black dress complete with an eerie veil. In contrast, Canadian TV star Kevin O’Leary wore a strangely medieval-looking suit accessorized, inexplicably, with a vintage 2004 NBA card hanging around his neck.

Marty Supreme star Timothée Chalamet, meanwhile, ruined an otherwise suitable all-white tuxedo with a performative pair of sunglasses.

Here are some of the most questionable looks from the 2026 Oscars:

Demi Moore

‘The Substance’ actor drew attention with the contrasting textures of her feathered Gucci gown, which some viewers compared to a dead peacock (Getty)

Timothée Chalamet

The ‘Marty Supreme’ actor stunned on the red carpet in his all-white suit — until he randomly threw on a pair of black sunglasses and power-posed for a photo (Getty)
Chalamet updated his look for a different photo on the carpet, drawing more attention to his double-breasted jacket (Getty)

Jack O’Connell

The ‘Sinners’ actor continued his vampire role on the red carpet as he wore a set of bloody fangs (Getty)
O’Connell hid his fangs at first as he wore a classic white dinner jacket and bowtie (Getty)

Chloé Zhao

The ‘Hamnet’ director looked more at home in the Addams Family, wearing a black Gabriela Hearst gown with draped sleeves and an eerie black veil (Getty)

Taylor Frankie Paul

The ‘Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ star looked like she was heading off to the school dance in a nude-colored dress with cut-out detailing (Getty)
Paired with gold heels and a simple hairdo, the entire look seemed to lack effort (Getty)

Melissa McCarthy

McCarthy’s red carpet gown might have fared better with a lower neckline (Getty)
The actor’s two-tone dress lacked structure and a strong silhouette (Getty)

Buddy Guy

Singer Buddy Guy went a bit too quirky for the red carpet, sporting a baseball hat with leather overalls and a polka dot button-up shirt (Getty)

Kristen Wiig

Wiig wore an Elie Saab Haute Couture gown with a patterned skirt reminiscent of your grandma’s favorite curtains (Getty)
The ‘Bridesmaids’ actor’s gown also had an ill-fitting top that appeared baggy (Getty)

Felicity Jones

‘The Brutalist’ actor wore a pale yellow Prada gown that reminded fans of an unflattering mother-of-the-bride dress (Getty)
Jones’s gown was complete with a tulle train that distracted from the intricate detail on the sides (AFP/Getty)

Misty Copeland

The retired ballerina attempted to go back to her roots, with an oversized black blazer with a tulle fringe that felt out of place on the carpet (Getty)
Copeland made a bold statement with the tutu adornment just days after criticizing Timothée Chalamet’s viral comments about no one ‘caring’ about the ballet or opera (Getty)

Jayme Lawson

While the ‘Sinners’ actor suited the dark purple color of her gown, the middle section of the silhouette was not flattering, drawing comparisons to a candlestick holder (Getty)

Kevin O’Leary

The Canadian businessman stood out in a flashy black tuxedo adorned with medieval characters (Getty)
O’Leary bizarrely chose the Oscars to show off his 2004 NBA cards that are supposedly worth $20 million (AFP/Getty)

Amelia Dimoldenberg

The ‘Chicken Shop Date’ host wore a vintage Ralph Lauren Collection gown with a large strip of fabric in the back that hindered the gown’s overall silhouette (Getty)
