Oscars 2020: Hildur Guðnadóttir becomes fourth woman to win Best Original Score for Joker

Iceland composer Hildur Guðnadóttir has become the fourth woman to win the Best Original ScoreOscar, for her work on Todd PhillipsJoker.

Guðnadóttir, who also won the Original Score prizes at the Baftas and Golden Globes, said it had been "an honour" to get to know the work of the other nominees.

"A film composer is only as creative as the dialogue with the director," she said. "Todd Phillips was so generous to invite me on this journey."

She continued: "My family, my beautiful family are here with me tonight, my incredible husband Sam – my other set of ears; to my mother and my son..."

She concluded: "To the women, to the mothers, to the daughters, who hear the music bubbling within, please speak up. We need to hear your voices."

South Korean black comedy Parasite was the evening’s biggest winner, making history by becoming the first ever foreign language film to win Best Picture.

Other winners at the 2020 ceremony included Laura Dern, who took home the prize for Best Supporting Actress.

As expected, Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for Joker following which he criticised inequality and paid tribute to his brother River Phoenix, who died in 1993.

Meanwhile, Olivia Colman had the audience in stitches before presenting Phoenix with his award.
