Oscars 2019: Lady Gaga sends message of 'joy' to LGBT+ fans after winning award

Lady Gaga sent a joyful message to her LGBT+ fans at last night’s Oscars.

Gaga, who has long been an outspoken supporter of LGBT+ people, was asked if she had a message for her fans, many of whom were celebrating at Sydney’s Mardi Gras.

“One of the hardest things in life is to be brave enough to be yourself,” she said.

“I wish, to everyone who is going to that celebration, to feel a joy inside of them. That’s actually what Bradley [Cooper] said to me yesterday right before we did our last rehearsal for this performance of ‘Shallow’.

“He said: ‘Let’s just drop a little bit of joy,’ and I said, ‘OK’. And, it turns out joy did a whole lot for me.

“I hope that everyone there in Sydney feels so much joy and celebrates all sexual identities,” she added.

Gaga concluded by proposing a more inclusive approach to awards categories in the future.

“I also have a true dream in our future, as we evolve as humanity, that these award shows won’t be ‘male’ and ‘female’, and that we include everyone.”

While Gaga lost out on the Best Actress award for her performance in A Star is Born, she won Best Original Song for ‘Shallow’. In her acceptance speech, she urged viewers never to give up: “If you have a dream, fight for it.”

Gaga and co-star Bradley Cooper performed a sizzling rendition of the song at the ceremony.

Gaga is the only person in history to win a Golden Globe, a Grammy, a Bafta and an Oscar in a single year.
