Oscars 2012: The Muppets wins best song

The Muppets songwriter Bret McKenzie has won the Oscar for best song at the Academy Award ceremony currently taking place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Man or Muppet, written by the Flight of the Conchords actor and performed by Jason Segel (as Gary) and Peter Linz (as Walter the Muppet), was the strong favourite for the award.

However, the Muppets' sole opposition was Real in Rio from the animated film Rio, as only two songs were nominated this year.

The Muppets sees Jason Segel as Gary and his Muppet brother Walter try to reunite the gang to save the Muppets' theatre from demolition. The song arrives at a point when Gary's loyalties are divided between Walter and his girlfriend Mary.
