Oscar-winning film Joker is being screened with a live orchestra this summer in Cardiff

Multiple Oscar-winning film Joker will be screened in Cardiff this summer with a full, live orchestra.

At the 2020 Academy Awards ceremony lead actor Joaquin Phoenix and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir scooped the Oscars for Best Actor and Best Original Music Score - and fans of the film will be able to hear that beautiful score, live, at the Wales Millennium Centre on Sunday, June 21 .

The Todd Phillips-directed film is brought alive by the haunting and melodic soundtrack, which has also picked up a Golden Globe and Bafta for its composer.

Icelandic Guðnadóttir is the first woman to win the Oscar for best score since 1997 and her work can also be heard in the HBO miniseries, Chernobyl.

Accepting the award, Guðnadóttir said: “It was so incredible to see that Joaquin had channelled exactly what I felt when I wrote it."

And she encouraged potential music makers to make sure their voices are heard. She said: "To the girls, to the women, to the mothers, to the daughters, who hear the music bubbling within, please speak up. We need to hear your voices."
