Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks pledges support to Aston Villa in play-off final against Derby County

It is unreasonable to assume that the vast majority of Nottingham Forest fans will be supporting Aston Villa in this year’s Sky Bet Championship play-off final.

Villa take on Forest's arch rivals Derby County in the richest game in football at Wembley Stadium on Monday.

The winner of the game will be promoted to the Premier League, and receive all of the riches that come with it.

While most Forest fans will be on the claret and blue’s side on Bank Holiday Monday, someone else has announced themselves to be of the Villa persuasion.

Oscar winning actor Tom Hanks, famous for his roles in the films Castaway, Forrest Gump, the Toy Story franchise and many others, recently said through Twitter that he will be supporting Villa in Monday’s final.

“On Monday I will bleed claret and blue for Aston Villa,” Hanks tweeted.

He added: “One match away for a return to the Premier League. Up the Villa! Hanx.”

The 2018-19 season was Villa’s second in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League in 2017, and the second year in a row they’ve reached the play-off final.

Twelve months ago Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat to Fulham at Wembley, and Dean Smith’s side will be keen to go one better this year.
