In recent days, comedian Ricky Gervais revealed he'd get 'cancelled' if he presented the Oscars, after his controversial Golden Globes stint in 2020.

A host is yet to be confirmed, but it is the first time the awards ceremony has had one since 2018.

American talk-show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel previously headed up the prestigious event, but many pledged the name of Ricky.

Fans of the After Life creator and actor want Ricky to host the awards ceremony after it was dubbed 'the most boring show on television', but he reckons he'd get cancelled halfway through.

Lots of fans penned Ricky's name in the comments section, putting him forward and almost nominating him for the role of host, but the star isn't too sure he's cut out of the job.

Daily Star have reported that the comedian and actor said: "They'd never let me do what I wanted. I mean, that's why the Globes got me.

"They said I could write my own jokes and say what I wanted, no rehearsals.

"I don't think the Oscars would ever allow me that freedom and rightly so... I'd do the Oscars but it won't happen. I'd get cancelled halfway through."

When Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes in 2020, the audience packed full of A-listers and big-name Hollywood stars squirmed when the comedian unleashed a barrage of jokes at their expense.

He told the audience on the night: "If you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech.

"You're in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.

"Come up, thank your agent, thank your God and f*** off."
