Oscar nomination for Aardman's Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon

Aardman Animation's latest movie has been nominated for an Oscar.

A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon has been nominated for best animated feature at the 93rd Academy Awards, the winners of which will be announced on Sunday, April 25.

The movies sees Shaun embark on a mission to shepherd an alien with amazing powers back home before a sinister organisation captures her, after the intergalactic visitor crash-lands near Mossy Bottom Farm.

It is a stand-alone sequel and to the Shaun the Sheep Movie, which was released in 2015, and is based on the claymation television series Shaun the Sheep, a spin-off from Wallace and Gromit's A Close Shave .

The Bristol studio's film, which stars Justin Fletcher, John Sparkes and Kate Harbour, will go up against Onward, Over The Moon, Soul and Wolfwalkers at the Academy Awards.

Farmageddon was released in cinemas on October 18, 2019 in the UK and on Netflix in the United States on February 14, 2020.

The film received positive reviews from critics for its animation, humour and plot.

Since being founded in 1972, Aardman's films have made $1 billion worldwide and average $147 million per film.

Aardman's productions have received numerous awards and nominations over the decades, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and BAFTA Award for Best British Film for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit .
