Oscar-nominated director Jim Sheridan confirms DJ Bobby Ryan's family 'keen' to make film about case

The family of murdered DJ Bobby Ryan are keen to assist in the making of a documentary, it has been reported.

Oscar-nominated director Jim Sheridan said he has met with the family of the Tipperary man, also known as Mr Moonlight.

Killer farmer Patrick Quirke was in May convicted or murdering the popular local and love-rival.

The renowned filmmaker from Dublin was spotted at several hearings of the 15-week long trial - the longest in the history of the State.

Sheridan previously spoke of his interest in making a documentary about the case, but insisted he would consult the victim's family before doing so.

And the 70-year-old has now confirmed the family are interested - but it is still "early days".

He told the Independent: "I suppose we're just trying to figure it all out at this point.

"I've been in touch with the Ryan family and they are very keen to do some kind of project. They are totally in favour of it, but it's still early days."

He also directed The Field which, similar to the trial, follows a difficult series of events in a small rural community.

“I mean it is The Field”, he previously said. “It reminded me of it. That’s why, subconsciously, I went along (to the trial) to have a look.

"Land, the whole thing, it’s all there. It is very like it."
