Oscar Isaac wants to play Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid film

Oscar Isaac has put his name forward for the role of Solid Snake in the proposed film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid

The actor was asked by IGN – alongside his castmates Pedro Pascal, Ben Affleck, Garrett Hedlund and Charlie Hunnam – which video game adaptation they would like to star in.

Isaac said: "Metal Gear Solid, that's the one. I'm throwing my hat in for that one." The Metal Gear series, created by Hideo Kojima, is developed and published by Konami.

Although the first iteration was 1987's Metal Gear, released in 1987 for MSX home computers, the series found immense popularity after the release of 1998's Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation.

The game's narrative followed Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to liberate hostages and defeat the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit. Its success spawned a whole string of sequels and prequels, adding new characters to the mix.

A Metal Gear Solid film has been in development since 2006, with Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts joining the project in 2017.

Isaac also added why he thinks video game adaptations have struggled to find success. "With the video game thing, I think the trick will be how do you replicate the feeling of what it feels like to play a video game," he said. "I think where it goes wrong often is with the plots."

"That's because you can't play a movie," Affleck added, to which Isaac responded: "I know, but how do you get some of that feelings of what it feels like?"
