An industrial fire at an automotive repair shop in Osborne Park has blanketed an area of Perth in thick black smoke and prompted an alert for the City of Stirling.
The fire broke out at Precision Automatic Transmissions around midday, but despite the intensity of the blaze, firefighters managed to contain it to the one building.
One man was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital in a critical condition with severe burns, reportedly to his head and body. A second man received burns to his arm, but was treated at the scene.
While cars parked at the front of the business were not damaged, several vehicles inside were destroyed.
Fire crews are working to contain the blaze, supported by the ChemCentre and Department of Environment Pollution Response Unit.
Urban search and rescue paramedics have also been dispatched to the scene.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has warned people in the City of Stirling to take precautions as there is a lot of smoke in the area.
People are urged to remain indoors where possible, with doors and windows closed.
Motorists are advised to avoid Ruse Street in Osborne Park due to road closures, which may also impact Hutton Street.
Incident controller Ryan Murtagh said solvents and motor oil were among some chemicals in the building which were making the job more difficult for fire crews.
"The risk is definitely there and the hazards just make the job that much more difficult," he said.
"In this particular instance we couldn't make entry both because of what was burning as well as the structure itself being fully involved.
"The structure is fatally damaged and will no doubt be bowled over."
