A record 719 new cases of novel coronavirus infection were confirmed in Osaka Prefecture on Tuesday, surpassing the previous high of 666 set on Saturday, the prefectural government said Tuesday.
In Tokyo, 399 people were newly confirmed as having contracted the virus, extending to six days the trend of the daily figure surpassing the figure from the same day of the previous week.
The number of patients in serious condition in the capital decreased by two to 44.
The seven-day moving average of new cases per day was 396.9, an increase of 9.8% from the previous seven-day period of 361.6 cases, according to the Tokyo metropolitan government.
