Due to a sudden spike in coronavirus cases in Osaka Prefecture, Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura on Tuesday requested that residents refrain from parties and going out drinking with five or more people, among other measures, to combat the virus' spread.
"People in their 20s and 30s are going out to nightlife spots in the city and spreading the virus around while eating out, and then the virus makes its way through them to older people and others," Yoshimura said.
The request to have no more than four people at a party or when going out drinking will be in effect from Aug. 1-20 and is based on the revised special measures law to cope with new strains of influenza. If infection cases continue to rise, then any establishment that sees a cluster outbreak after failing to take preventive measures will be asked to close.
Aichi Gov. Hideaki Omura, meanwhile, said Tuesday that he is considering asking residents to refrain from visiting eating establishments where customers are served in close-contact settings and from having large parties.
