Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday expressed his condolences to those affected by a 6.7-magnitude earthquake which struck Hokkaido on Thursday.
At least 44 people have been found dead, with over 660 others injured. Upwards of 2,500 people are currently in evacuation centres.
An official statement from Gen Prayut read:
"On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand, I offer our sincere prayers for those who lost their lives, and extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to those affected by this tragedy. Thailand shares your sorrow and stands ready to provide assistance to alleviate the terrible impacts of the disaster."
Electrical power has since resumed, while the Japanese government has urged locals to use 20% less energy to prevent blackouts.
