Old friends reunited
There was the, now customary, warm reunion between former Chesterfield team-mates Liam Cooper and Luis Boa Morte at Craven Cottage. There was also an unexpected embrace between BT Sport analyst Steve Sidwell and Leeds United coach Michael Skubala.
A cursory look over their CVs does not throw up any obvious links where they may know each other from. Then, at half-time, Pascal Struijk and Kenny Tete, former Ajax team-mates, were seen exchanging a few words on the walk over to the tunnel from the dugouts.
BT Sport get in the way
Before the warm-ups get underway, the backroom staff, of course, set out the cones for the exercises to come. Juan Solla, Javi Gracia’s designated fitness coach, was mapping out his area in the Leeds half, but was confronted by a BT Sport member of staff.

BT were planning to broadcast from within the Leeds warm-up area and it required a frank conversation between one of their number and Solla before a compromise was found on how they would share the turf. Solla did not look impressed.
Summerville ignored
On a few occasions in the first half, when Rasmus Kristensen was free to receive a restart from Illan Meslier on the right flank, the goalkeeper kept overlooking him. Crysencio Summerville was even shouting repeatedly at the stopper to find the Dane, who was entirely unmarked, but the Dutch winger was ignored.
Firpo into the ref
While he hadn’t played an active part in the first half, Junior Firpo took it upon himself to get stuck into Peter Bankes on the half-time walk back to the changing rooms. The left-back was remonstrating with the referee, for the duration of the walk, about something he had seen and did not like.
Away end rage
Just as they did at King Power Stadium, Villa Park, City Ground and Goodison Park, United’s away-day die-hards made it clear just how unhappy they were at Craven Cottage today. The rage was too much to hold in as they watched their side fail to put together any semblance of threat against the Cottagers.
“We want Orta out.”
“Orta, time to go.”
“Sack the board.”
The Leeds faithful rang through their repertoire, making it explicitly clear they wanted change as they watch their club slide towards the relegation zone. Jed York, San Francisco 49ers chief executive officer and future Elland Road power broker, was in attendance to hear how the fans were feeling.
