Orry-Kelly: Dressing Hollywood celebrates the life of the costume designer from small town Kiama in NSW who took on Hollywood. He designed costumes for a staggering 285 films, including those featured in The Maltese Falcon (1941), Casablanca (1942), and Gypsy (1962). He was one of the first Australians to win three Oscars for An American in Paris (1951), Les Girls (1957) and Some Like it Hot (1959).
With letters, clippings, paintings, drawings, archival footage and photographs, the exhibition will present a comprehensive survey of his career. It will also offer access to his previously impenetrable personal history - touching on his life as a proud gay man who had a troubled relationship with his great love, Cary Grant.
