Holyland flat fire being treated as 'deliberate'

Police are treating a 'small fire' at a flat in South Belfast on Monday night as 'deliberate'.

Detectives are appealing for information after the fire at residential premises in the Ormeau Road area, between Fitzroy Avenue and University Avenue on November 15.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A report was made to police around 7.40pm who attended the scene at a flat in the area. Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire.

"No one was injured and, at this stage, the fire is being treated as deliberate ignition and enquiries are continuing.

"Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting reference 1747 15/11/21.

"A report can also be made online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/."

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: " Four fire Appliances attended the incident in total. One fire appliance each from Central, Cadogan, Whitla and Springfield Fire Stations.

"Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a property on the Ormeau Road yesterday evening. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate ignition and the incident was dealt with by 11.06pm."
