Orlando Bloom thanks NHS as he recalls horrific time he broke his back

Orlando Bloom has gushed over the NHS for saving his life.

Backing the health service, the actor implored the British public to stay home.

The Canterbury-born star, 43, has thanked the National Health Service for saving his life when he fell out of a window in a horrific incident more than 21 years ago.

He confessed he broke his back in the fall when he was 20 before he was launched into stardom.

Orlando had been attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1998 when he fell three stories from a window and broke his back.

NHS doctors and nurses battled to save his life and despite fears he would be permanently paralysed, he quickly recovered and returned to the stage.

In a gushing Instagram post, Orlando pleaded with Brits to stay at home and follow coronavirus lockdown procedures to help the NHS.

He wrote: “The NHS saved my life when I was 20 after I fell from a 3rd floor window and broke my back.

“Having lived in the US for nearly 20 years now it’s one of the public services from home I respect the most.”

On his return to the stage, Orlando unknowingly performed in front of director and producer Peter Jackson who was sat in the audience one night in 1999.

Peter gave Bloom his huge break as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which saw him filming in New Zealand for 18 months just after graduating.
