Orlando Bloom Reworked His Colorful Beach House With Artist Roy McMakin – Now, He's Listed the Vibrant Bolthole for $12 Million

Orlando Bloom; Orlando Bloom's Malibu Beach House.

Owning a Malibu Beach house may be reserved for the Hollywood elite, but that doesn't mean we can't take a peek through the doors of their uber-chic homes when they go on the market. The latest celeb to put his SoCal estate up for sale is Orlando Bloom.

His Pacific Coast Highway bolthole, set just above El Matador beach, and re-worked with artist Roy McMakin, boasts a vibrant palette, open-plan living spaces, and ocean views, and it's listed with Compass for a cool $12 million. Shall we take a look around to see what that gets you in this chic neighborhood?

Built in 1974, and with over 4,000 sq ft, this 4-bed, 5-bath Malibu pad features high-beamed ceilings and plenty of glass for a contemporary architectural look. Every opportunity to showcase those endless ocean and mountain views has been taken, with multiple rooms opening onto indoor-outdoor living spaces, including outdoor dining areas, leading from the kitchen and living rooms, and wrap-around decks off the en-suite bathrooms.

The overall aesthetic is relaxed, rather than overly styled. While the property has a vacation vibe, thanks to colorful decor and contemporary artwork, it's been designed for practical family life – it's easy to see why the actor chose it as the perfect spot to bring up his son – with functional spaces that feel purposeful, yet relaxed and just a little bit fun.

The property's main living space is open-plan, allowing beautiful natural light to flow through and creating a seamless connection between the kitchen and the large living room and media room on either side.

Natural wood-beamed ceilings and sculptural wooden furniture keep the feel on the warm side of minimal for a cozy, modern aesthetic.

Color may be featured in some way in most rooms of Orlando Bloom's ocean-view property, but no more so than in the green kitchen, in which everything, from the cabinetry to the tiling and the unique hanging cabinets, is in a covetable shade of jade.

A wooden butcher's block-style kitchen island helps to balance the look, along with the wooden flooring and ceiling, while contemporary bar stools bring contrast and interest. The bold artwork at the far end creates a dramatic focal point while metal pendant lights lean into a more industrial look.

Another space that uses color in an uninhibited way is the living room, it's a prime example of when decorating with blue goes right. The multi-hued blue couch frames the room and echoes the colors of the ocean beyond, while unexpected details like stained-glass decorations, floral-print throw pillows, and a log-burning stove keep things interesting and layered with personality.

But for sun seekers and dreamers, the cherry on the cake is sure to be the ocean-view pool with its covered deck – the property also features a spa, wet bar, hot tub, barrel sauna, and home gym. It's the epitome of luxe living, which is completed by a private stairway leading directly to the beach. What more could you ask for?

While we don't all have an A-list budget, Orlando Bloom's Malibu Beach home is a lesson in decorating with primary colors, where chic ocean-front living meets unabashed creativity, and it could be your sign to be bolder with color in your own home, so why not take a leaf from his book with your next project?
