Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu has played down the prospect of joining Arsenal this summer, despite the Gunners being very keen on landing his signature.
The 19-year-old attacking-midfielder, who is considered as one of the most promising talents emerging in European football, has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months, as Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta looks to put his own stamp of authority on the squad he inherited from former boss Unai Emery.
Kokcu, though only a youngster, has been making all of the right noises in the Eredivisie this season, racking up 22 league appearances, scoring two goals and creating four assists, which is an impressive return for someone of such a tender age.
The Turkey Under-21 international, who used to play for the Netherlands at international level, has been attracting plenty of interest from across Europe, most notably from Arsenal, as he continues to draw attention to himself with his fine individual performances.
Even though the season is over in the Netherlands because of the coronavirus pandemic, Kokcu is still refusing to discuss his long-term future, as he sets his focus on getting in shape for the start of the 2020/21 campaign, though when that could be remains to be seen.
"It doesn’t really matter to me, frankly. My father and my agent are busy with that," Kokcu told RTV Rijnmond. "I try to isolate myself from that. That works fine. Fortunately, I am a footballer and not an agent.
"I want to make the best of it next season and want to be as fit as possible when the competition starts again.
"For now I’m only working with Feyenoord. I have a contract until 2023, so I’m not in a hurry.
"When the moment arrives and I feel good about it, we’ll see."
In total this season, Kokcu, who doesn't even turn 20 until December, racked up a total of 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times and registering six assists.
