A Newtownabbey woman with Cystic Fibrosis was left in floods of tears yesterday following the approval of plans to deliver life-extending drugs to Northern Ireland.
Nicole Adams, 28, said that her life will completely change now that Orkambi, Symkevi and Kalydeco will soon be available to eligible patients suffering.
More than half of Northern Ireland’s 500 cystic fibrosis patients could benefit from the life-lengthening drugs which were confirmed yesterday following an NHS deal with maker Vertex.
Nicole said: "Everything that I have fought for is now happening. I am actually just in awe. I've been in tears but I am so happy.
"I can't thank you all enough for supporting me through it all. I have literally went my whole life in denial, not telling anybody because I didn't want anybody to feel sorry for me.
"When I became a wee bit more open and beginning to tell of my struggle, everybody has been so suportive.
"The people that I have got in touch with, Liam, Jen and Naomi. There are so many people in the CF community that have encouraged and supported me.
"I'm an emotional wreck. My life is going to change but this is not the end, there is other drugs out there that can help further.
"But today my little life can start to become something that I really thought after this year I wouldn't see."
