April 30--The White Sox bungled two potential double plays behind left-hander Carlos Rodon in the fifth inning Friday night, and the Orioles turned their mishaps into a 3-2 lead.
With a runner on first, Brett Lawrie lost Matt Wieters' groundball, and it rolled into the outfield, giving the Orioles runners on first and third with no outs. After Nolan Reimold's two-run single up the middle with one out, the Sox had a shot to get out of the inning. But after Jimmy Rollins tagged second base, his off-balance throw sailed into the stands beyond first base, and another Orioles run scored.
Avisail Garcia hit an RBI triple in the second inning to give the Sox a 1-0 lead. Jose Abreu's RBI single in the sixth inning cut the Orioles' lead to 3-2.
Rodon retired 11 straight to start the game before Chris Davis broke the streak with a fourth-inning single. Rodon walked Adam Jones to start the costly fifth inning.
Rodon entered with a 1-2 record and a 4.05 ERA. After allowing five earned runs in 1/3 inning on April 18, Rodon bounced back in his last start to allow two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings against the Rangers.
"As much as that hurts, and I know he doesn't want to have a night like that, he's been able to put it behind him and take off after that," Sox manager Robin Ventura said.
